We offer the following modular distance learning and face to face practice based programmes of
study. All modules may also be studied stand-alone assessed or non assessed.
COMMUNITY TREATMENT OF SUBSTANCE MISUSE (CERTIFICATE OF HIGHER EDUCATION):
The programme is designed for students who:
- are new or have recently begun to work in the addiction field or those who work in the health and social welfare field and their work has expanded to include people who have problem substance misuse
- do not have any former higher or further education experience
- would like to acquire a practice based qualification in addiction at higher education level
- may wish in the future to build on their level 1 learning
- need to satisfy DANOS requirements
- would like to acquire knowledge on theory, research, policy and the underpinnings of current practice
Modules:
Assessment of substance misuse, Principles of substance misuse interventions, Principles of harm reduction for substance misuse, Continuing professional development for substance misuse professionals
CERTIFICATE OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN ADDICTION STUDIES BY DISTANCE LEARNING:
This course is designed for students who:
- are new or have recently begun to work in the addiction field or those
who work in the health and social welfare field and their work has expanded
to include people who have problem substance misuse

education level
- may wish in the future to build on their level 1 learning

DIPLOMA OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN ADDICTION STUDIES BY DISTANCE LEARNING:
The course is designed for students who
- are seeking specialist knowledge about the addiction field
- would like to study in their own time and in their own home
- would like to focus on theory, research, policy and the underpinnings
of current practice
- may live a long way from an educational institution

Foundation, Prevention, Intervention and Research Methods, Substance Misuse
and Criminal Justice.
GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN ADDICTION STUDIES:
The focus of the programme is the development and enhancement of clinical
skills for those working in the addiction field and an examiniation of
the evidence base which supports them.
Modules:
Alcohol, Drugs and Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing,
Cognitive Behavioural Coping Skills, Safeguarding Children (Child Protection)/Working with Child Bearing Drug Users, Social
Behaviour and Network Therapy, Substance Misuse and Criminal Justice.
BHSc (HONS) ADDICTION STUDIES:
This course is designed for those who are currently practising
in the field of health, social welfare and addiction and would like specialist
knowledge and practitioner skills in the treatment of addiction field.
Modules:
Foundation, Prevention, Alcohol, Drugs and Harm Reduction, Research Methods,Intervention, Motivational
Interviewing, Safeguarding Children (Child Protection)/Working with Child Bearing Drug Users, Psychopharmacology and
Physiology of Addiction, Social Behaviour
and Network Therapy, Substance Misuse and Criminal Justice.
Choose from modules above plus Library Based Project and/or Research
Project.
